How To Determine Your Skin Type

When it comes to choosing the right products for your skin, you always want to make sure that you are choosing the ones which will serve your skin best and produce the best results. For instance, someone who is more combination skin (i.e: oily/dry skin prone), will opt for products that are light and oil free in nature, and include a higher pH acidity to combat the oil in your skin. In order to do this, you have to first determine what your skin type is.

The four skin types are normal, dry, oily and combination.
Here are some handy tricks that will help you figure out your skin type!

Three beauty products that you need this Spring- Matte Lips- Highlighters-Skin Care

Would you believe me if I told you that I'm getting rid of most of my beauty stash.
Why?
As a new mom, I want a fresh start.
I was holding on to some products past their shelf life.
Let's be honest A LOT of us are!

I'm excited for my new venture and discovering products again!

*****
With that being said. I have to rebuild- my beauty collection.
Here are three products that you should add to your list this year
because I'm adding more to mine!

MATTE LIPSTICKS

Clarins Joli Rouge Velvet in Guava

Is Double Cleansing for you?

After a good girls night or a fun date night to muster up the energy to take off your make up is non-existent. In my younger days, I do remember nights not taking off my make up. Please don’t judge me! Thankfully, I had amazing skin that time so it did not impact me.

There are many ways to fully get your make up off which unfortunately do take up time... but honestly it’s worth it. One thing, I will never give up on is make up wipes. But I'm going to be honest, that there are some wipes that do not fully do the job in one wipe. Those CHEAP ones that are ALWAYS on SALE! Stay away from them. Most of the time, those cheaper wipes only get off the first layer of make up. What about your sunscreen, primer, moisturizer or serum? There is still residue left over. Don't leave me- wet a rag and wipe your face.

So here is where double cleansing comes into play...

Make Up For Ever: Artist Acrylip + Swatch

One of the first lip products my list to share for the Summer is the Artist Acrylip ($23.00 CAN).
Totally different from your typical matte lip.
This is a extremely pigmented product.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Concealer + SWATCHES

What if you were told that you had to keep your makeup regimen to three products.
Would it be hard for you? It would be the easiest choice for me.
  • A liquid lipstick
  • Lashes
  • Concealer
Years ago concealer would never be in my top three "survival" products. But I won't lie, I love how awake it makes me look. Especially days when the world is trying me and I'm surviving on NO sleep.

As a woman of colour, I know that we are prone to getting dark under eye circles. With the MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Concealer’s ($34.00 CAN)  you don't need a lot to get the job done! I also forgot to add that the concealers have a Anti-Dark Circle Complex with Radiance Booster.

Blush for Dark/Deep skin tones?

I have noticed, getting some ladies who are dark/deep skin tones to wear blush is difficult. I will admit it, a lot of us have had a bad experience with blush (or know/seen someone who didn't do it right). What a lot of people don't know is that blush can be the missing piece to putting a look together.

Dark/Deeper skin toned girls, whenever your lost picking a blush just go for oranges and fuchsias.

For Spring/Summer, opt for a powder blushes.
For Winter/Fall, opt for cream/gel blushes. I used E.l.f. Studio HD Blush in Encore and I'm very happy with the pay off. I bought this one at IMATS.

Do you have a favourite blush at the moment?

Winged Eyeliner & Wine Lips

My signature look this year has been pretty simple- Wing liner & bold plum lips. It's quick and effortless. This post was apart of Challenge Four for Fashion magazine's Beauty Panel.

I'm constantly asked how do I get my line so perfect. I will tell you it takes a lot of practice but a good eye liner is key. You can use pencil, liquid, cake or gel liners to get the look.

For time sake, I use liquid liners. I also make sure I get the deepest black. I find it pops on my skin tone and also brings out the brown in my eyes.

For this particular look I used Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eye Liner from Milani. The liner is thin, pointy and deep. People who are new to eye liner may like it because it has a grip. If you still can't get your liner straight, make sure to have some precision qtips on hand to clean up the mess.

What is your favourite liquid eyeliner?

I love Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder

Have you ever bought into a beauty "hype"? It's a product that you see a celebrity endorsing or a popular product blowing up youtube/blogs. I did a few months ago and I'm so happy I did.

Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder is liquid gold. Okay.. Maybe I'm over exaggerating but it's pretty awesome!  There was a time when this product was on back order on every website that it was sold on! Some ladies waited up to four weeks to get their hands on a bottle. How insane is that?!? It's all because Kim Kardashian's makeup artist featured it in one of his videos. I'm happy I purchased my bottle from Camera Ready Cosmetics before the true hype set in.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that Kim K and I are not the same color. We're probably at the opposite ends of the color spectrum. That's the beauty of the Banana powder. It can work for several skin tones. One tip would be not to use a large amount of it if your a deeper skin tone. I found that using a light amount and buffing it in works best(for me).

If you use a large amount, instead of a glow under your eyes you will have a serious white cast in pictures. If you get a good buffing brush, you're set!
I'll leave you all with a picture of me wearing the banana powder:
Under my eyes looks amazing!
Now I'm interested in purchasing other colors from the line.

Have you heard of this product and would you purchase it?
