Tips on What to Do After an Eyebrow Disaster

I know I am not the only one in quarantine who has botched their eyebrows. My first attempt was flawless. I was super careful and I had the time to do it. The second time... The baby was crying and I attempted to get the stray hairs out of with a mini scissors?!?!
I know!
I took a really massive chunk out but thank GOD for brow pencils!

Today I will be sharing three tips on how to cope with a bad brow situation.

NUDESTIX Eyebrow Stylus Pencil & Gel

Sometimes a product comes into your possession and changes your whole life. Brows are a tricky subject for me. I was born with super thick brows.

In grade 7, I found brow scissors and it was over. I had these horrible thin brows for years.

Nobody told me that they were bad... until my first day of my makeup course.

Once I grew them out, I was never sure what to put in them. Whenever, I'd find a product.. I'd get bored of it easily. Or I'd get overwhelmed. I refuse to carry around more than one product.

Then I was introduced to Nudestix Eyebrow Stylus Pencil & Gel ($28.00 CAN).

Anastasia Beverly Hills + The Perfect Wedding Brows

As a beauty blogger, one of my favourite things is getting to meet the creators of a product.
When I received an email from Sephora asking me if I wanted meet with Anastasia Soare, brow expert and beauty specialist to the stars, I responded with a quick yes!

An area on my face that doesn't get as much TLC as it should is my brows!
I never know what products to use to get the perfect look. At the event, I got to have a one-on-one with her (She did my brows!!!)  and speak about her key products.

From our talk I discovered that I need to invest in brow stencils!

They're easy to use and made of plastic that can cleaned and reused.
A fuller brow works for my bone structure and I need to stop talking so much off the top and let them grow in.

Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW™ Pomade is a bride's best friend!

I'm overdramatic but I fear I'll sweat out my brows on my big day. Anastasia suggested using the DIPBROW™ Pomade because it's smudge-free and waterproof. Go in with light strokes to get a natural looking brow. She picked the colour Ebony for me.

Every girl has to have a Brow gel in their possession.
To set your brows it's good to finish them off with a gel.
Clear is perfect because it goes with all skin tones.

What are your brow must haves?

How To Get The Perfect Brows (Guest Post)

Eyebrows are what frame our face and can completely transform a look. Here’s how you can achieve the perfect brow.

Step 1: First groom your eyebrows using a spoolie. I like to use an old mascara brush that I’ve cleaned and then bend the tip.

Step 2: Then you want to lightly outline the brow following its natural shape. If you want to extend it, do it slowly and try to keep your line consistent.
You want to make sure you stay 1-3 shades within your hair colour. So if you have black hair; go for a dark brown. And if you have blonde hair; go for a light brown.
I’m using the Wet N’ Wild brow & eye liner in dark brown. The great thing about this product is that you can get it for around $1, it’s highly pigmented, and lasts a long time.

Step 3: After outlining the eyebrow, very lightly feather in small strokes (using the same pencil) following the direction your natural hair grows. Bring out your spoolie again and blend to avoid harsh lines. The more often you blend; the better.

Step 4: Then I take a Real Techniques brow brush with the Revlon eyeshadow in Rich Sable and lightly feather in any gaps. If you want to fill in the beginning part of the eyebrow; use an even lighter colour.
If you’re using an eyeshadow, make sure that it’s matte and has no frost –unless you want some shimmery brows!

Step 5: This step is optional. Use a concealer that matches your skin tone (please no concealer that is lighter than you) and take a small synthetic brush and outline the outside of your brow. This covers up any excess hair and gives a very clean, sharp look. I recommend MAC's studio finish concealer because of its creaminess and longevity.
Make sure you blend in that concealer!

Step 6: Lastly, use a clear brow gel to set your brows. This step is also optional, but it allows your eyebrow to stay put throughout the day.

Avon Perfect Eyebrow Kit Review

Avon Perfect Eyebrow Kit claims “Get the perfect eyebrows with this neat little duo!” I tend to agree that it’s a great duo. The packaging is sleek and compact and it holds a wax and powder as well as a dual-ended angled brush and it even has a mirror. This kit comes in 4 shades: Auburn, Blonde, Deep Brown and Soft Brown.
I tried this eyebrow kit in Blonde, which is a very light shade. On me it leans a bit orange but that’s not uncommon, as I have discussed the taupe nature of my brows before. The Blonde shade was a bit to light for how I normally do my brows (I will be purchasing the Soft Brown shade and using a mixture of the two).

Avon recommends using the wax first and then the powder. I’ve tried it both ways and really I think it’s just a personal preference on if you want to groom with wax first or second. I am not always a fan of eyebrow wax and it can feel quite greasy and slide, but Avon has done a great job the wax is soft and pliable but also has just the right amount of tack and drying to it.

These eyebrow kits are $9.00 CDN and extremely handy. If you are a person who travels or is maybe just getting into the whole eyebrow thing I really think this compact is for you.

Rimmel London Makeup Artist, Vanessa Jarman’s tips for the 2012 Spring/Summer season

Earlier this year, I got the opportunity to ask Rimmel London Makeup Artist, Vanessa Jarman’s some simple tips for the 2012 Spring/Summer season.

Check out what she has to say about red lips, perfect eyeliner & brows!

SB:How to pick the perfect red for your skin tone (Fair, Medium & Dark)?
According to Vanessa, picking a great red for your skin tone “can be a little challenging at first”. However, by following her simple rules below, it will make the search a lot easier:

For fair skinned people with a blue undertone complexion, Vanessa recommends choosing a red lipstick that is cool. “Blue-reds will work to enhance and brighten your complexion”, she said. Vanessa recommends trying, Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in, Temptation

She also suggests for those fair skinned ladies with a slightly more yellow undertone, “to try picking reds with an orange base as these tones will complement the natural warmth in your skin” she says. Vanessa recommends trying Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in, Alarm

For those medium skin toned ladies with yellow hints to their complexion, Vanessa suggests choosing a warm red lip colour, “as this will brighten your smile and whiten your teeth”, she says. Vanessa believes trying the Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in Kate Moss #01 Red

For ladies who have darker skin with a slight redish/purple undertone, Vanessa recommends choosing a red lipstick with cooler blue hues to make lips really pop. She suggests using Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in Bordeau.

And finally, for dark skinned ladies with a mix of warm yellow and orange hues to their complexion, Vanessa suggests choosing a lipstick to complement skin colour with a warm orange undertone. Vanessa suggests trying Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in Red Hot.

Red lips are being worn many different ways from glossy, matte, crisp and bright like Dior, to soft yet bold like Anna Sui's SS/12 runway.

Feel free to follow the rules, or break them!! Whatever tone of red makes you feel hot, playful or sexy - wear it and have fun!

SB:How to make your eyeliner last all day?
When applying eyeliner, Vanessa suggests trying to use a couple of products. If you find your pencil smudges or wears off easily by the natural oils of your lids, “apply pencil first followed by a similar shade in eyes shadow. Simply place the eyes shadow directly over the top of the eyeliner, using a tight small brush so you can be precise with your shadow application.”.

Vanessa also recommends “placing eye shadow over top of your eyeliner when lining your inner waterline. This step is especially important to use when creating a smokey eye, and will ensure an even darkness near your iris and the whites of your eyes,” she says.

Vanessa suggests trying- Rimmel London Exaggerate Auto Waterproof Eye Definer or the Rimmel London Special Eyes Eyeliners in any shade!!

Pair with: Glam' Eyes Mono Eye Shadow: Jet Black, Dusk, or Plum Romance for a matte finish.
Explore the Glam Eyes HD Pallets: For a shimmer finish on top of your liner. This will add brightness, and dimension to your liner.

SB:The Best Products to use when filling in your brows?
According to Vanessa, “No matter what Rimmel London product you end up using to fill in your brows, make sure you apply it softly,”.

It's important to build up your eyebrow shape slowly, rather than piling on too much from the start. Vanessa recommends for a medium brown to dark chocolate brow – Rimmel London Mono Glam Eyes Pallet in Dusk and for Redheads, she recommends using Rimmel London Natural Bronzer in Sun Bronze
