Make Up For Ever: Foundation Nation Event

I was so happy when I saw the invite for Make Up For Ever's Beauty Blogger brunch event. As a woman of colour, I know how hard it is to find the perfect foundation. I honestly feel like it's always a never-ending battle but that is slowly starting to change.

Most women of colour have to deal with skin issues such as discolouration. Which can make it difficult to find a good foundation.  When you have five different tones on your face,
which tone do you match to?!

Did you know that 73% of women have problems with finding right foundation.
That means that more than half of us are walking around with the wrong foundation!
YIKES!

At the event, we had the opportunity to speak to the amazing Troy Jensen about our skin issues. Troy has worked with many celebrities to give them their signature look.

Like Kim Kardashian's smoky bedroom eyes.

Troy gave me tips on how to get the perfect skin tone as a woman of colour.
Guess what the secret is!!

Colour correctors.

Not specifically the ones the greens and lavender(for me) but one that has an orange in it!

After the event, there were make up artists there to give us our own private foundation makeover. I loved the fact that I was given my own skin profile card to take with me! The skin profile card went over crucial things such as my skin type, my skin tone, my skin undertone and camouflage options (if I needed).

For anyone that's interested,
I was recommended the MUFE 5 Camouflage Cream Palette- No. 4 - for dark skin tones.

Each cream corrector was labelled by number.
Here is what was specifically used:
  • 20 under my eyes
  • 22 like darker areas like around my lips
For the whole face- Pro Finish in 177 was used.

I should also add that this look was done with their new artisan brushes!
Which are so soft. I will have a separate post on them soon.

Do you have a Sephora store near you?
If so, stores cross Canada are holding educational events from September 19 to October 6 to help you solve your biggest foundation challenges.Experienced make up artists will be on hand to give you a complementary 15 minute foundation lesson to empower you to put your flawless face forward.

Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation Review- Chestnut

I do not wear foundation daily. I usually wear it on a night out or to an event. Lately my skin has been so oily this Spring. I'm serious! Oil blotters are currently my best friend- I cannot leave home without them but that's a whole other post.

I'm always on a look out for foundations that work well for women of color. I've heard a lot of good things about hourglass foundation but the range only went up to beige and obviously that would not work for my skin tone. When I had the opportunity to review one of the eight new Immaculate shades, I first went to Sephora to get the sample to see which colour worked for me.  I met an awesome sales associate who gave me a very large sample to try out before my bottle arrived.
“Miracle Foundation For Oily Skin” - Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation– just got more miraculous. As you may remember, the liquid to powder formula absorbs oil, camouflages imperfections, and delivers a long-lasting velvet matte finish—without the need for touchups. After an influx of emails from customers claiming Immaculate had improved their skin, we came to the realization that Immaculate was not only helping people with oil-absorption and shine-diffusion, it was also remedying their skin.
I was very happy to see how this foundation held up. I honestly could go hours without having to blot my face and not worry about how I looked. I know that seems small but for someone like me who doesn't wear foundation- I always forget to check up and nothing is worst than going to an event or party and taking pictures and seeing how oily you look. Shoot!! No one could have warned me?!?

Plus the Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder($64.00 CDN) has acne fighting properties. This is perfect for the girls who are afraid to wear foundation because they constantly break out.

You might expect such phenomenal results from a high-tech, acne-fighting skincare product—but from your makeup? Not likely. Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation bridges the gap between skincare and cosmetics with its paradigm-shifting formula. And it does so without resorting to ingredients like salicylic acid, which can lead to dryness and flaking. For women dealing with problematic skin, the idea of a foundation that delivers a flawless matte finish and simultaneously helps clear your complexion is a godsend.

The overall look and texture of the foundation was really nice. I really liked applying it with the stippling brush. It doesn't matter what your skin tone is, if you are from light to a dark deep like myself- I would recommend that you definitely go to Sephora try out the foundations for yourself.

New L'Oreal Foundations for Women of Color

As a women of color blogger, I think it's my duty to share products that are universal. Both foundation have shades ranging from fair to dark. In this post I am going to focus on the deeper tones.

I feel like a kid in a candy store talking about these foundations. Mostly because I know that they will work for some of my readers. If it won't work for you, I know its a brand that you can suggest to your friends or client if your an MUA.

The product on the left is the L'oreal Paris Magic Beautifier BB cream in Deep. Try saying that five times fast, it's a mouth full. If you're like me and you don't wear foundation daily, this is perfect for you. This formula is much different than your traditional BB cream because it comes out white and then adjusts to your skin tone. There are a lot of products which  say they do this but they are usually not suitable for dark/deeper tones.

Another factor which makes this product unique is the "luminating" particles in this BB cream.
I currently don't have a product like this in my make up stash.
L'oreal Paris Magic Beautifier BB cream comes in Fair - Light - Medium - Deep

L'oreal Paris True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Foundation
The words healthy & foundation are usually not words that see you on foundations bottles.
Apparently this foundation has 3 powerful ingredients (40% water, antioxidants, vitamin C & E ) that improve your skin the more you wear it. I will tell you that I have not been wearing this foundation enough to see "changes" but I can give you information on coverage.

The foundation is light and buildable.  For reference this shade is Nut Brown/ Cocoa.

I just came back from a week in the Dominican Republic and I am probably a shade darker.
Currently this foundation is exactly what I need during the summer.

This foundation comes in 15 shades ranging from light to deep.

I've been duped! Sephora & Make Up For Ever glosses

It's so easy to get duped. You go out shopping you see something that catches your eye and once you get home.... You realize that you have 50 other products that look the same.

Does this sound like you?
Well..That's totally me!

I originally was gifted with the MUFE Lab Shine Diamond Collection from Fabdiva20, sometime last year.
On one of my trips to Sephora I picked up a "similar" pretty pink gloss.

MUFE Lab Shine $18- $20
SEPHORA Lip Gloss $3.00 (on sale)
Can you guess which gloss is which?
They look VERY similar!

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB in Deep

BB cream movement was something that I "wished" I could participate in. As several brands started to roll out their versions, there never was a color that fit me. Even though there was a"dark" was in some of the lines, they were way too light.

I can't even tell explain to you my excitement when I found a "deep" at the Maybelline Fall Trends event.

So far I have been wearing it straight for almost two weeks. I'm in love!

8-in-1 Skin Perfector:
  • Blurs imperfections
  • Brightens
  • Evens skin-tone
  • Smoothes
  • Hydrates
  • Enhances
  • Protects with SPF 30
  • Oil-Free

I may be getting too personal but it's a great feeling to be included. YES.. I said it. I love when brands incorporate a good range of skin tones in their lines.

I am not just talking about dark tones. I spoke to a few ladies who actually found their perfect shade in the line (light/medium & medium/deep).

Here is a shot of me wearing the BB cream.
Doesn't my skin look amazing!
Hopefully, this post will inspire someone out there to try it out. Regardless of what color you I know you will find a match. If you have any questions leave them in the comment box below.

Foundation Series: Make Up For Ever - HD High Definition Foundation

I'm so excited to start my foundation series. At least once a month I will highlight a foundation that I truly love. Since I work a early 8-3 I don`t have time to put on apply foundation..so weekends is my time to play. The first foundation I fell in love with was Make Up For Ever - HD High Definition Foundation in 178.

If you follow me on twitter you will constantly hear me fave about this product. Yes, its pricey for the drugstore consumer but its really worth it.

Here is a picture of me wearing MUFE-HD in natural day light. Its so easy to rave about this product with flash but natural light is where you get to see the true beauty! As you can tell there is NO white cast..

The formula is light and I usually apply it with a sponge or my Sigma F80. Lastly my favorite setting powder when I`m using it is MAC mineralized finish natural deep dark.

Here is a picture with flash. As you can see again, NO white cast. Also the foundation is blendable! In the summer I use it with a wet sponge to get light coverage.

Have you used Make Up For Ever - HD High Definition Foundation? What do you think?
