How to Keep Your Cuticles Looking Their Best

2:18 PM

Summer is coming! You know what that means..
Fabulous summer nail trends!

Dana Caruso, Sally Hansen Beauty Expert shares the best way to keep your cuticles looking their best:
Treating your cuticles is one of the most important inclusions to your weekly nail regime, particularly when the cooler weather sucks the moisture from your body, your skin is drier and in need ofa little more TLC. When treating the cuticle it’s important to follow the “GOLDEN RULE” only remove what is torn, cracked, and lifted! NEVER cut what is attached and intact. Sally Hansen’s Cuticle Eraser Balm, contains cucumber and green tea extracts known to moisturize, soothe and nourish rough dry skin. If the cuticle is neglected it can become dehydrated and potentially sore, so it’s a good idea to keep your cuticles supple and nourished.

China Glaze Magnetix Collection

3:57 PM

I recently got the opportunity to try out two polishes from China Glaze Magnetix collection on the Nailpolishcanada.com website.

These polishes are made with magnetic particles that form designs when a magnetic is placed over it.

China Glaze Magnetix comes in six different shades with one all-in-one magnet.

The magnet has three patterns: Star, Chevron & Diagonal Lines. Out of the three patterns the star was my favorite!
For best results first apply a base coat to clean, bare nails. Then apply a coat of colored polish and immediately hold the design magnet over the polish for 10-15 seconds.
The experience:
I found this kinda difficult at first. I was adding to much polish and the design wouldn't "come" through. After a while when I only added one coat, I was more successful. These pictures below are from my first attempts:
As weird as this seems... I love the fact that the polish tried quietly. Also the colors are rich & vibrant.

The con in terms of the magnet is that you have to work fast. As soon as you apply the one coat, apply the magnet ASAP. I had to learn how to master getting the magnet close enough not to ruin the polish.

Overall, I find the idea of magnetic polish pretty cool. I probably would only put them on my accent nails. Perfect way to change up a look with very little efort.

What do you think of magnetic nail polishes?
Have you tried any before?

Vegan Finds: Soulstice Spa nail polish review + Swatches

12:35 PM

For the past few weeks I've been testing polishes from a vegan & cruelty-free brand called Soulstice Spa.

They are USA based and "non-toxic, 3FREE color + shine ---- free of toluene, formaldehyde and dibutyl phthalate".

The three colors shown are from the Fall 2011 collection!
Left to Right: LA, South Beach & Telluride
LA: Stars & sparkle; glitter dust.
South Beach: Sheer white, sleek and modern.
Telluride: Ethereal, crisp light green shine.

POLISH BREAKDOWN
Coverage/Color-off:
  • Great consistency- Not runny or too thick.
  • Two coats to get good coverage.
  • High shine (similar to a gel treatment)
Price:
I loved the mix of Glitter sizes in LA.
I found that they were easier to remove with a base underneath.
 COMBO: LA & Telluride

I think that South Beach applied like a dream: Smoothly!
This is a color that I would not usually rock but it I'm starting to like it on my skin tone.
Two Coats of South Beach.
Overall I would give these polishes great high marks. They could definitely rival the non-vegan polishes on the market. As for the price, $8.00/ $8.50 is very reasonable for a cruelty-free polish.

imPRESS by Broadway Nails Launch!

1:17 PM

A few weeks ago I attended party for imPRESS me by Broadway Nails.

What is imPRESS nails you ask?
Your way to salon perfect nails in seconds!
  • No drying time
  • Superior, lasting shine
  • Easy removal
  • Lasts up to a week

They come in 36 different styles which suits each one of your personalities!
I found the "nail polish" bottle that they come in super cute.
Application is REALLY easy. No glue need.
Just pull back the plastic to expose a special adhesive.
Line it up with your cuticle and push on.
My two week shellac was on it's way out, so I applyed the zebra print to my nails.
How amazing does that LOOK!
They look like gel nails in my opinon for less than half the price.

Check out this gorgeous picture I took of Anjali from Rock that look new imPRESS nail mani.

UPDATE for removal:
You gently peel off from side to remove. If they seem really 'stuck' then apply polish remover around edges, wait 1 minute, the peel off.
* I didn't have any damage on my nails because I used nail polish remover to
take off the nail.*

What do you think about these nails?
Would you rock them?

Born Pretty Store Fimo Sticks Review

1:14 PM

I recently got the 100 pcs Cane Nail Art Fimo Fruit Shaped Stick w/ Cutter kit from Born Pretty.
If you don't know Fimo sticks are polymer clay that can be sliced and used as nail decoration.

Look at the detail in the canes!
In the kit:
100 fimo sticks
10x cutters
2x jewel empty boxes
1x glue

The Hello Kitty one is one of my favs of course :D
There is a spot on my thumb because a kitty fell off :(
Pros:
  •  100 different Fimo Sticks (variety)
  • Comes with empty jewelery box
  • Decent price
Cons:
  • The glue is not the strongest..
  • Some of the sticks are not my ideal choices (in my opinion)
  • It takes a while to get the hang of getting the "perfect slice"
Overall:
These are great if you're trying something new. If you can get the hang of cutting the sticks evenly & correctly... It's worth it.
