Have you tried: L'Oreal Paris Infallible 24h Fresh Wear Foundation

I love that I get the opportunity to try so try so many different foundations- all different finishes and textures. I have promised myself that I'm going to give myself 6-9 months to write about ALL of them currently in my possession! It's a serious task but it has to be done. As a dark skin girl, do you know how hard it is to find swatches or true images online? I won't leave you hanging!

These days it seems like there are a lot of brands out there that who feel like they have everything that what we want in a foundation.

But do they truly stack up??

Have you heard of the L'Oreal Paris Infallible 24h Fresh Wear Foundation ($19.99 CAN) ? If you've struggled to find the right foundation that hits a few of your must have lists- this might be the way to go.

COVERGIRL Ready Set Gorgeous Liquid Foundation

Here is another foundation to add to your list for women of colour.

We all know how hard it is to find a foundation that is not to "red" or not "too muddy". I  found one which can be found in your local drugstore. I should let you guys know that this is not a review. I just wanted to put this out there for any looking for something affordable to try.

If you're looking for a medium coverage to full coverage foundation that is oil-free
try Covergirl's Ready Set Gorgeous ($7.99 CAN)!
This liquid foundation's oil-free formula provides medium coverage to even skin tone and cover imperfections. The result is a flawless, natural look that lasts all day.

Apparently this foundation has a built-in powder system to fight shine and sweat.

For me 315 was too light and 320 was too dark so I mixed
them both to get a custom colour.

Have you seen COVERGIRL Ready Set Gorgeous Liquid Foundation in stores yet?

Avon MagiX Cashmere Advanced Liquid Dark/Deep Foundation

I couldn't wait to test out the Avon MagiX Cashmere Advanced Liquid Foundation ($15.00 CAN) because they had a great range for Women of Colour. That's one of the main things that attracted me to a line.

The cashmere-soft feel you love…now with new skin brightening benefits. Advanced new formula gives skin an instant radiance. 70% of women saw more radiant, younger-looking skin. After 4 weeks of use, spots and discolorations appeared diminished. Brightens complexion and creates a pore-free, line-free and shine-free look. Leaves skin feeling ultrasoft and moisturized with a natural finish. SPF 15*

I love the "squirt" bottle and applicator.
It's clean and easier to push out the amount of foundation you want without wasting it.

There are seventeen shades in the line ranging from light Ivory to Rich Espresso. So there is a shade for everyone!

The formula is really smooth. They describe it as "cashmere-soft". A little bit goes a long way. It can be applied with a sponge, brush or fingers. Lately, fingers have been my favourite way to apply foundation because I want a sheer finish. I will also use a wet sponge, if I want a sheer-dewy look.

This foundation brightens up your face. It doesn't apply flat nor is it muddy. Must women of colour know exactly what I mean by that statement. Wait until you see the swatches below!

One of the great selling points of the foundation is how it how it creates a pore-free finish. I know a few ladies who have an issue with large pores. You don't need a primer if you use this foundation.

The three darkest foundations in the line- Rich Espresso, Dark Cocoa and Earth shades do NOT contain SPF. I do use a moisturiser which contains SPF- so the lack of SPF is not an issue for me.

Also those three foundations would be perfect for special occasions where camera flashes were involved. If you're an Make up Artist looking for an affordable foundation to add to your kit for darker tones, this would be a good start.

Earth is a perfect match for me.
It's blended on the left and you can't even see it. Love!

New L'Oreal Foundations for Women of Color

As a women of color blogger, I think it's my duty to share products that are universal. Both foundation have shades ranging from fair to dark. In this post I am going to focus on the deeper tones.

I feel like a kid in a candy store talking about these foundations. Mostly because I know that they will work for some of my readers. If it won't work for you, I know its a brand that you can suggest to your friends or client if your an MUA.

The product on the left is the L'oreal Paris Magic Beautifier BB cream in Deep. Try saying that five times fast, it's a mouth full. If you're like me and you don't wear foundation daily, this is perfect for you. This formula is much different than your traditional BB cream because it comes out white and then adjusts to your skin tone. There are a lot of products which  say they do this but they are usually not suitable for dark/deeper tones.

Another factor which makes this product unique is the "luminating" particles in this BB cream.
I currently don't have a product like this in my make up stash.
L'oreal Paris Magic Beautifier BB cream comes in Fair - Light - Medium - Deep

L'oreal Paris True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Foundation
The words healthy & foundation are usually not words that see you on foundations bottles.
Apparently this foundation has 3 powerful ingredients (40% water, antioxidants, vitamin C & E ) that improve your skin the more you wear it. I will tell you that I have not been wearing this foundation enough to see "changes" but I can give you information on coverage.

The foundation is light and buildable.  For reference this shade is Nut Brown/ Cocoa.

I just came back from a week in the Dominican Republic and I am probably a shade darker.
Currently this foundation is exactly what I need during the summer.

This foundation comes in 15 shades ranging from light to deep.

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB in Deep

BB cream movement was something that I "wished" I could participate in. As several brands started to roll out their versions, there never was a color that fit me. Even though there was a"dark" was in some of the lines, they were way too light.

I can't even tell explain to you my excitement when I found a "deep" at the Maybelline Fall Trends event.

So far I have been wearing it straight for almost two weeks. I'm in love!

8-in-1 Skin Perfector:
  • Blurs imperfections
  • Brightens
  • Evens skin-tone
  • Smoothes
  • Hydrates
  • Enhances
  • Protects with SPF 30
  • Oil-Free

I may be getting too personal but it's a great feeling to be included. YES.. I said it. I love when brands incorporate a good range of skin tones in their lines.

I am not just talking about dark tones. I spoke to a few ladies who actually found their perfect shade in the line (light/medium & medium/deep).

Here is a shot of me wearing the BB cream.
Doesn't my skin look amazing!
Hopefully, this post will inspire someone out there to try it out. Regardless of what color you I know you will find a match. If you have any questions leave them in the comment box below.

The Body Shop: Extra Virgin Minerals Foundation Line + Mature skin pictures

A few weeks ago the Body Shop came out with Extra Minerals Virgin Line. At least 75% of their product range contains Community Fair Trade ingredients or accessories. Amazing!

Check out the three foundations:
  • Cream-to-powder mineral foundation contains pure minerals and cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil for an immaculate, matte finish.
  • This moisturising fluid foundation contains ultra-fine minerals and extra virgin olive oil. It gives light to medium coverage with an immaculate, dewy finish.
  • This featherlight powder base gives a radiant, natural-looking finish and can be built up for extra coverage. It is non-comedogenic and suitable for sensitive skin.
I was lucky enough to be given an opportunity to try out the line in the darkest shade. I have a slight amount of red in my undertone, so the color was not 100% perfect.
Luckily I had a client who was going to an event which skin tone suited this color precisely!
She has perfect, wrinkle-free skin in her 50`s and only needed a light to medium coverage.
I love the dewy finish and how great this foundation looks with flash.

Happy to have these products added to my kit!

Coverfx: Drench the Skin You're In event!

Last month I was invited to Cover FX Hydrating Clinic located in the The Bay Queen Street. To my surprised I went there and found out that these were personal one-one sessions with the amazing Derek Selby.
Before any makeup was applied he took my hand and determined my hydration. OMG! I was so embarrassed because I had been filming and traveling all day.... I totally neglected my arms. I find that in the winter I don't hydrate all areas as much as I should. The result is DEHYDRATED SKIN! After talking with Derek I realized this is the reason why we experience a dull complexions, redness, blotches and skin tightness. Also dehydrated skin can cause wrinkles & fine lines to be more apparent.

These pictures are from Urban Native Girl's session:

1. Measuring her moisture level.(low reading)

2. He applied Natural FX to a small portion of her arm.

3. Tested her moisture level again. (higher reading)

4. He used Clean Fx makeup cleansing mousse to remove the foundation.

Lastly he took her reading again and it was perfect!
After the reading Derek gave us some great tips on how to hydrate your skin, while dealing with your own skin issues. For example I have an oily T-zone but I find that areas like around my mouth is always dry.
OMG I loved the set up. products galore
The foundation he used was on me was a mixture of Skin Tint & Skin prep primer.
How amazing is this picture!!! I have to thank Melissa from CoverFX for this one :)

I had a great time and I have a bunch of goodies to show and review to you all in the next couple of week :)

Check out COVERFX!

Foundation Series: Make Up For Ever - HD High Definition Foundation

I'm so excited to start my foundation series. At least once a month I will highlight a foundation that I truly love. Since I work a early 8-3 I don`t have time to put on apply foundation..so weekends is my time to play. The first foundation I fell in love with was Make Up For Ever - HD High Definition Foundation in 178.

If you follow me on twitter you will constantly hear me fave about this product. Yes, its pricey for the drugstore consumer but its really worth it.

Here is a picture of me wearing MUFE-HD in natural day light. Its so easy to rave about this product with flash but natural light is where you get to see the true beauty! As you can tell there is NO white cast..

The formula is light and I usually apply it with a sponge or my Sigma F80. Lastly my favorite setting powder when I`m using it is MAC mineralized finish natural deep dark.

Here is a picture with flash. As you can see again, NO white cast. Also the foundation is blendable! In the summer I use it with a wet sponge to get light coverage.

Have you used Make Up For Ever - HD High Definition Foundation? What do you think?

Per-fekt Beauty easy alternative to traditional foundation, primer and powder.

The first time I touched this product in Sephora, I fell in love. I described it as "buttery goodness" ..lol.

Per-fekt Beauty offers multi-functional products that are quick and easy to apply, long lasting, and offer an alternative to traditional beauty products.

The blue bottle is a skin perfector that instantly per-fekts and enhances the appearance of the skin offering an easy alternative to traditional foundation, primer, color corrector and powder. Perfect for girls like me who don`t wear foundation regularly but want natural coverage.
This multi-tasking, modern gel-mousse glides on effortlessly to instantly improve skin tone, help maintain hydration, and reduce the appearance of redness and discoloration, enlarged pores, fine lines and shine.

This is a "swatch" of decendant which is the darkest color in the Per-fekt line. It is described as a dark mahogany color, I would describe it as milk chocolate. This color also looks like it won`t match my skin at all.. but it`s a per-fekt match! The consistency is smooth and not heavy.

Application:
Simply pat, smooth and go!  Pat a pearl-sized amount onto face and neck, smooth with fingertips. If more coverage or perfection is desired, Skin Perfection Gel is buildable.
I prefer to use a make-up brush because it`s easier to get a nice light finish!

The second item I was sent is the Eye perfection gel. It`s an anti-aging skin perfector combined with a modern palladium tip applicator that instantly perfekts and enhances the delicate under-eye area offering an alternative to traditional concealers, eye treatments, cover up and primers.

Eye Perfection Gel helps smooth away the appearance of puffy, tired looking eyes, fine lines and wrinkles while hydrating the skin.

Application:
Premeasure a drop of Eye Perfection Gel by squeezing out onto the cooling palladium tip applicator before applying around the delicate eye area.  With cooling palladium tip applicator, gently pat and smooth from the outside corner of the eye inward. Gently smooth with fingertips.
This is my full face look. Click the link to see it in HD.
Pros:
  • Consistancy feels amazing
  • Vitamins
  • Maintains hydration
  • shades of light to dark
Cons:
  • The price can be seen excessive for some.
Overall I'm very happy with these products. Although some may say it pricey but if you purchase a good department store foundation, primer, color corrector and powder, your total will be more than this product.
