Hourglass Cosmetics: Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil & Femme Nude Lip Stylo

Hourglass Cosmetics state that they exist at the revolutionary intersection of science, beauty and luxury. They are a cruelty-free brand that for the most part produces products without parabens, gluten and animal-derived ingredients (I say for the most part as these three things do depend on the product you purchase BUT Hourglass does list their “free of” ingredients on their website).

I’ve tried a few hourglass products in the past but this post is going to be dedicated towards the Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil – Soft Brunette and the Femme Nude Lip Stylo – Nude No. 6.

Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil – Soft Brunette
Free of: sulfates, phthalates, synthetic dyes, fragrance and vegan friendly.

I really enjoyed this brow pencil. It combines both powder and soft wax to create a natural fuller brow. This brow pencil is more of a flat triangle shape in an automatic casing, which means no need to sharpen, and it can be twisted down back into the casing for easy travel. There is also a concealed spoolie on the end of the pencil.
I happen to have very light brown eyebrows; I would almost call them taupe (the grayscale end of taupe at that). They require a light brown hue but one that casts a bit green. This is a very hard colour to find. Normally I just use a separate powder and wax or if I am lucky there is a Lise Watier brow pencil but it’s not always easy to find and chances are outside of Canada you wont find it. This is where Hourglass is amazing its accessible. It only comes in 3 shades (blonde, soft brunette and dark brunette), which is a bit of a let down as there are far more shades that could be utilized by consumers. That being said if you fall into the category of the 3 shades mentioned you should really try this product out. I can actually admit that this product has become my new Holy Grail eyebrow pencil!

Hourglass Femme Nude Lip Stylo – Nude No. 6
Free of: Nothing was listed on their website for this product.

I have a love/hate relationship with nude lips. I so very much want to be able to wear a nude product but I happen to have very pigmented lips that are more mauve/berry in colour so I end up looking like I applied concealer to my lips or like I’m just wearing a pink lipstick. The nude lip style in #6 though being the darkest shade is actually the best shade for my lips.

The femme nude lip stylo is a full-coverage formula with a satin finish. It comes in 6 shades:
Nude No. 1 – a pale pink nude (lightest)
Nude No. 2 – a honey beige nude with a warm tint
Nude No. 3 – a medium rose nude, with a hint of pink
Nude No. 4 – a pink beige nude, with a touch of deep rose
Nude No. 5 – a golden peach nude with luminosity
Nude No. 6 – a mauve nude (deepest)

This lip stylo is creamy and soft but with minimal staying power. You are going to want to pack this in your purse cause you only get about an hour or 2 of wear. That’s perfectly fine though cause the packaging is so upper crust that you will want to take this out of your handbag and show it off a little.

The stylo is scentless and yet it reminds me of what lipstick used to smell like. Hear me out on this; do you remember being a child and how when your Mom gave you a kiss her lipstick had this certain fancy vintage lipstick smell? Well that’s what this lip stylo smells like. I really enjoy this product and I think others will too. I’ve even added this to my Christmas shopping list. Don’t tell her but I’m 100% certain My Mom is getting this in her stocking.

Head to your local Sephora and take a gander of these beautiful gems.

NYFW: Hourglass Cosmetics- Christian Siriano Spring 2014

I loved the makeup look created by MUA artist Polly Osmond for Hourglass for
Christian Siriano's spring 2014 collection.

The theme was vived hues seen by Siriano from hisrecent trip to Isla Mujeres on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. “I wanted the collection to be light, feminine and romantic,” says Siriano. “Like the girl left the beach but she had a cocktail party to go to, and threw on a dress, a bright lip, and little highlighter.”

Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation Review- Chestnut

I do not wear foundation daily. I usually wear it on a night out or to an event. Lately my skin has been so oily this Spring. I'm serious! Oil blotters are currently my best friend- I cannot leave home without them but that's a whole other post.

I'm always on a look out for foundations that work well for women of color. I've heard a lot of good things about hourglass foundation but the range only went up to beige and obviously that would not work for my skin tone. When I had the opportunity to review one of the eight new Immaculate shades, I first went to Sephora to get the sample to see which colour worked for me.  I met an awesome sales associate who gave me a very large sample to try out before my bottle arrived.
“Miracle Foundation For Oily Skin” - Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation– just got more miraculous. As you may remember, the liquid to powder formula absorbs oil, camouflages imperfections, and delivers a long-lasting velvet matte finish—without the need for touchups. After an influx of emails from customers claiming Immaculate had improved their skin, we came to the realization that Immaculate was not only helping people with oil-absorption and shine-diffusion, it was also remedying their skin.
I was very happy to see how this foundation held up. I honestly could go hours without having to blot my face and not worry about how I looked. I know that seems small but for someone like me who doesn't wear foundation- I always forget to check up and nothing is worst than going to an event or party and taking pictures and seeing how oily you look. Shoot!! No one could have warned me?!?

Plus the Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder($64.00 CDN) has acne fighting properties. This is perfect for the girls who are afraid to wear foundation because they constantly break out.

You might expect such phenomenal results from a high-tech, acne-fighting skincare product—but from your makeup? Not likely. Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation bridges the gap between skincare and cosmetics with its paradigm-shifting formula. And it does so without resorting to ingredients like salicylic acid, which can lead to dryness and flaking. For women dealing with problematic skin, the idea of a foundation that delivers a flawless matte finish and simultaneously helps clear your complexion is a godsend.

The overall look and texture of the foundation was really nice. I really liked applying it with the stippling brush. It doesn't matter what your skin tone is, if you are from light to a dark deep like myself- I would recommend that you definitely go to Sephora try out the foundations for yourself.

My Top 7 May Favourites: Revlon, Vichy, Sephora & Hourglass

I kept my look to a straight minimum in May. I was soooo busy with a lot of work at my 9-5.
Here were my essentials:

1. VICHY Capital Soleil Bare Skin Feel Lotion SPF 45 ($29.95 CAN)
For men and women of all ages with phototypes 2, 3 or 4 who want to protect their skin efficiently from UVA and UVB rays, in an ultra-light dry-touch texture for body and face.
I will be speaking about sunscreen a lot this summer! I love this because it applies sheer. I don`t get a white cast when applied. Do you know how hard it is to find a sunscreen like that!

2. VICHY Aqualia Thermal Night Spa ($44.00 CAN)
This gel-like formula is loaded with Vichy Thermal Spa Water, hyaluronic acid and Aquabioryl for a total hydration boost.  These active ingredients act in relay to lead Vichy Thermal Spa Water deep into the skin and skin cells for maximum benefits, lasting well over 12 hours.
Hydration is key! Perfect product to use after you exfoliate before bed.
*Tip: Wait about 10-20 minutes before you lie on your pillow.

3. MARK GlossWorks Lip Gloss ($14.00 CAN)
Go from beach to street without a worry with a luscious formula for gorgeous glossy color that helps protect lips from drying UVA and UVB rays. Brilliant shine that lasts for hours.
Love! Love! Love this lipgloss! It contains SPF so it protects your lips from the harmful rays. It`s pigmented and has the perfect shine.

4. Essence Cherry Blossom Girl  2in1 eyeliner ($1.00 CAN on sale)
Yin & yang! both ends of the 2in1 eyeliner let you create beautiful, accurate lines – from fine to broad. thanks to its semi-permanent texture, this eye make-up is extremely long-lasting in a choice of classic black or natural dark brown.
This launched back in September and I was sooo lucky to find it on clearance for a $1.00. This stuff does not budge. Honestly it`s the perfect eyeliner! I wish there were more- I`d buy them all.

5. Revlon lash potion™ volume + length mascara by grow luscious™ ($9.95 CAN)
Magically transform lashes to lush, long and lustrous. A potion with strengthening proteins drenches lashes for volume. Triple-groove wand combs through for clump-free length.
Clump-free lashes! I personally would say that it gives me more volume than length. I apply 3 to 4 coats to get full volume.

6. Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12 HR Wear ($6.00 CAN)
A waterproof eye pencil with a long-wearing, matte black shade.
It`s so hard to find a matte eyeliner that last all day! This one is perfect because you don`t have to "set" it and it's paraben-free!

7.  Hourglass N° 28 Lip Treatment Oil ($49.00 CAN)
A richly concentrated oil blend of cutting-edge actives, botanicals, and skin-rejuvenating vitamins for the delicate lip area.
No words can explain how it feels on your lips. It also has opulent 24KT, anti-bacterial, gold-plated tip to create a soothing effect on the lips. I know the price may scare you but trust me it's worth it.

Jessica Alba at the Golden Globe Awards Rocking Hourglass Cosmetics

I've peeled myself away from watching the Golden Globes awards to post this all for you. Didn't Jessica Alba look stunning!! I still can't believe that she's a mother of two. She rocked that fab peach-coloured gown by Oscar de la Renta.

She's is also wearing one of my favourite makeup brands Hourglass cosmetics. I was sent this breakdown and I know that someone may want to recreate the look!

Skin:
Makeup Artist Lauren Andersen prepped the skin with Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum, and followed with Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Sand. She then used Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer in Warm under the eyes, down the bridge of the nose and fanned the product out in the center of the forehead to create dimension. She finished the skin step with the new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light applied all over to create a golden, subtle warmth. “It’s a soft, refined shimmer that’s glowy,” says Lauren.

Cheeks:
She used the bronze shade from Hourglass Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in Sunset to contour the cheeks and followed with the blush shade on the apples of the cheeks.

Eyes:
Hourglass Film Noir Kohl Eye Pencil in Espresso was first applied to the outer corners of the eyes and then smudged it with a brush. Lauren then applied Hourglass Superficial Waterproof Bronzer in the crease of the eyes and the gold shade from Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Dune on the lids. Lashes were treated to several coats of Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara. She finished up by amplifying the brows with Hourglass Arch Sculpting Brow Pencil in Soft Brunette.

Lips:
Finally, Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Riviera, a vibrant tangerine shade, was applied to the lips. The velvety matte color delivers richly pigmented and long-lasting coverage for up to 14 hours.
