High End Skin Care: Is It Worth the Splurge?

“Good” skin comes at a cost – no surprises there. Skincare is one of those things where we have so many options and hacks to help get us to that flawless face. At the same time, it can also get confusing when trying to figure out what is worth the splurge.

The general consensus is that for the following items (providing you have no major skin care concerns), you can scale back and save on as they contain the same basic ingredients that will still get you the results you need:
 Cleansers
 Toners
 Day moisturizers with SPF
 Lip balms
 Eye creams

When it comes to serums, night creams and face masks, we should expect to spend a few more dollars as these products are meant to penetrate deeper into the skin and are packed with highly concentrated ingredients that target your skincare concerns right at the source. I decided to put this to the test with a few pricey products. Although I am a skincare fanatic, I was skeptical on whether these products would be worth the spend.

Let’s find out!

1) Tata Harper Clarifying Moisturizer $140.00 (CDN)
Although moisturizer is one of those items you can save on, I suffer from the occasional breakout and have some acne scarring so I needed a moisturizer with a few added benefits that can treat my skin at the same time. That being said, this moisturizer is definitely worth the spend!!!

Tata Harper focuses on 100% natural, non-toxic and organic anti-aging skincare. The products are freshly batched and bottled on a farm in Vermont. This particular moisturizer is formulated to be lightweight and designed to target blemish and acne-prone skin. Because it is quite pricey, I use this moisturizer only a few times a week. I wouldn’t expect the average person to use this everyday and night because it is quite pricey however if I could afford it, I totally would! The formula is indeed very lightweight which is good for someone with oily skin like me. I have noticed a difference in the brightness of my skin since incorporating this into my routine. Bonus – it smells amazing! Super light, fresh and citrusy. I will caution that if you live in colder climate, for the winter you will need something richer for a daytime moisturizer.

2) Dr. Roebuck's Ultimate Hydrating Serum $80.00 (CDN)
I am a serum lover/junkie. I have a few that I love because they REALLY work for me so I was skeptical to add another to the mix. However I was pleasantly surprised with this find. Particularly in a season when the air is super drying I found this to be key in really adding and keeping the moisture in my skin. I noticed a difference in how my skin looked and felt when I used a moisturizer on its own, without the Hydrating Serum.

The formula contains hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and various peptides that all do wonders for hydrating and plumping the skin. With this product, a little goes a very long way so you do not need a ton of product to see results. A few drops, once a day is what I used and I was able to see a noticeable difference in a week. That being said, the price tag is justifiable and this product is definitely worth the splurge as one bottle can last a least a couple of months.

3) Reversa Anti-Spot Brightening Serum $48.00 (CDN)
Reserva’s Anti-Spot Brightening Serum is essentially a vitamin C treatment. It was designed to visibly reduce the appearance of brown spots and imperfections. It also has a booster effect on other anti-aging formulations. In other words, it strengthens their benefits because of its antioxidant power.
I did not notice any noticeable differences in skin tone and the reduction of certain spots.

It could be because I had not using it for long enough nor did I suffer from major discolouration to see a visible change. By no means do I believe that the product does not work. Given that this product a bit more on the affordable side, I would make this spend, particularly if you’re in the market for something to target pigmentation/discolouration.

To give all products a fair and honest shot,
I did test them independent of each other to avoid any biases.

Are there any products you have splurged on that are totally worth it? Or is there
something that you’re using that is a complete steal that you’d like to share?
