New Mom Essentials: Up to 6 months! Was it worth it?

Looking back, I can say I did quite well prepping for Ava. How? By talking to other moms and looking at baby registry must haves. I can admit not EVERYTHING is necessary but some things are essential.

I’m always asked what are my must haves...
Now that Ava is 7 months I can tell you what made my transition to motherhood smooth.

Diaper Caddy
Why?
I wanted everything at my fingers when diaper changing.
I never wanted to have to leave her on the change table to have to run and get anything.
How did it ease your new mom concerns?
I always knew what my supply was.
I never was out of wipes/diapers/body lotion/diaper cream.
Plus it also helped my husband stay organized as well.
How long did I use it?
This is something that I will continue to use for a WHILE.
As long as Ava is still in diapers.
Would you purchase again?
I'm 50/50 for only one reason. I do feel like if you hit it (walking past it or whatever) with enough force. It will crack and eventually break. But I love how simple it as and cost effective- so I'm torn.

Rocking chair
Why?
Probably because I seen it in EVERY nursery inspiration picture and I really loved the look.
Plus it looked like a great product for bonding throughout the years.
How did it ease your new mom concerns?
It actually helped my husband and I establish a bedtime routine for baby girl. Also whenever she was cranky we would rock in it and sing to her to calm her down. It worked every time.
How long did I use it?
This is something that we will continue to use for a WHILE.
I hope to see her someday reading her books in it when she's older.
Would you purchase again?
Yes and I could definitely recommend it.
I also totally understand why it's in every nursery.

Playard
Why?
This was a gift and I wasn't sure I needed/wanted it but it exceeded my expectations.
It was perfect when family came over and wanted to see the baby. There was also a basinet and a change table included. All my diaper changes downstairs could be done without any pain on my back.
How did it ease your new mom concerns?
When people came over she didn't have to be always held. She could lie down in the playard and chill. Also the mesh siding was good for naps!
How long did I use it?
This is something that we will continue to use for a WHILE.
Probably until she is 1. We can sit her in there with her toys to play while we are downstairs.
Would you purchase again?
Yes and I would definitely recommend it.
I have brought it to my parents house for when she sleeps over plus I could also take it on vacation!

Swing
Why?
It was always at the top of the nursery essentials list.
Also in my prenatal class- we were told that a swing can remind a baby of what it was like in the womb. Very calming!
How did it ease your new mom concerns?
It was always like an extra pair of hands. I was always able to cook or clean with the baby within my sight. Plus if she was cranky and needed a bit more sleep but didn't want to sleep in her crib. She would take mini naps in the swing.
How long did I use it?
She's currently 7 months and still using it.
We will retire it at 9 months.
It still calms her down so it's still super helpful.
Would you purchase again?
As a girl mom-yes!
It was definitely a conversation starter.
But there are currently other swings on the market that go up to a higher weight class- that I would purchase for baby number 2.

HALO Bassinest
Why?

I wasn't ready to put such a little baby in a crib already. I wanted something easy to manoeuvre around, breathable and modern.
How did it ease your new mom concerns?
I was able to see Ava. Some other basinets are made out of cloth. So I'd physically have to get up to see her. Also since it was mesh- I knew she would be able to breathe easily if she moved towards it.
How long did I use it?
Ava stayed in there until 3 months.
I only took her out because:
A) She's really tall
B) She moves around in her sleep.
Would you purchase again?
Yes! I'd probably go for the upgraded version.
I think that having a nightlight, vibration and soothing sounds would make a HUGE difference.

  2. I wish I would have purchased a rocking chair. ESPECIALLY since I am a nursing mom. My son is weaning so no need for it now.
