My Beauty Blogging Story!

When I started blogging, I told no one. Blogging was my little save haven. It allowed me to indulge in my love of cosmetics with people who share the same beliefs.

I was vlogging on youtube before I started blogging but hardly any of my followers followed me to this platform.

I basically started everything from scratch in 2008. The first person I told was my brother, then boyfriend and a few cousins. I recently told my parents last month and they were very supportive of it. Such a great feeling but awkward when they tell other family members.

Am I embarrassed? NO. Am I shy? NO. I just prefer to share my obsession with the people who I know I can engage and learn from.....

What's your story?

  1. I started a little over a year ago.
I used my blog as a platform for my makeup artistry. I want exposure and FAST.
So I shared it all over Facebook, first. Then I created Twitter and Tumblr accounts and shared it on there.
I told anyone and everyone who would listen about my new career path and blog! lol

  2. Great post! I started almost 2 years ago. No one really knew about it. It was my way of just sharing my love for makeup to those who also had the same love for makeup. I decided to tell the fiance a few months after I had the blog and since then he has been really supportive. He is the one that has been pushing me lately to post more. None of my friends know about my blog. I don't know why. Maybe to save me from the embarrassment? lol!

  3. I started 5 years ago basically because of! Figured if writing beauty reviews on their site why not start a blog. Oddly I too don't share with too many co-workers but if I see they have an interest in beauty products than the floors open:-)

  4. I started in 2005 but didn't know what I was doing, then in 2010 I revived it and had more of a direction, then I fell off and restarted last year with a very clear direction of where I want to go. So yea, it took me a couple tries. Also, when I re-started in 2010 it was private.

  5. I started because I was a beauty junkie who loved to write and when I found out that there was such a thing as the beauty blogging community, I thought that it was the perfect fit for me. Most of my friends don't know that I'm a beauty blogger, though my closest friends and a few fellow beauty junkies do. My parents do know that I blog, but I refuse to give them the URL and I get a bit embarrassed when they tell all their friends :p.

  6. I started blogging in 2009. I was always so inspired by reading other beauty blogs that, I decided that it was time for me to start my own. And man, am I glad I did! I love how blogging has made me appreciate beauty products much more and also, the awesome interaction that I get, with other beauty lovers from all over the world. Its amazing!

I don't really mind telling people that I am a beauty blogger. Most of my close friends and family members know. Even though some may not understand my passion for it, they know that I am happy, and that is all that matters :)

  7. I really enjoyed reading this Jen. I probably will do a similar post in my blog. I started over 3 years ago and my blog was mainly about my makeup looks then. I started because I was very active on Specktra then and the girls there encouraged me to document my FOTD's in my own blog. It was such a great idea and it's still one of my greatest hobbies.

  8. My blog is my little secret right now, the only people who I have told is my boyfriend and my mum and I intend to keep it that way for another month or so. I have been wanting to start a blog for years now but never had the time, it was actually my boyfriend who motivated me to start one last month. I initially wanted to start a fashion blog but it is pretty much beauty based right now. I love blogging and sharing things I am passionate about with like minded people.

  9. Oh my god well I've been obsessed with blogging since I was 13 years old but at that time I lived in Sweden and rea a lot of Swedish lifestyle blogs. I've had like 3 blogs before this one (including this one, but i used it as lifestyle blog, and ive deleted those posts). When I created this blog I've always mentioned it to my family, and I've always shared it on facebook and I have my whole family plus friends there :)

I dont see why you shouldn't share it with everyone. Especially your blog which is really great (and big).. xx Take Care

  10. I started off the same, keeping it relatively shielded from people in my day to day life. It can be difficult to explain to people who don't get your makeup passion, so I think it makes sense to just plug into the community and connect with like minds.

Years on & still going strong.. and some great connections from local meetups too. :] These days more people know of my hobby, as I feel less inclined to have to explain myself.

  11. Great story. I personally think you should tell as many people as you know. Your blog is wonderful and my favourite. :)

I try to keep it from people, but somehow someone finds out by someone else. My family and close friends know about it and now my boyfriend tells so many people its unbelievable. lol As of late, I'm not so worried about who knows, because its something I enjoy doing so I shouldn't feel ashamed. I think you remember my first blog, I started that in 2008 and then I stopped and came back to blogging. I'm much happier with this blog than with my older, one I had years ago.

I hope to grow my blog bigger and better, but it takes time. :)
