Review: Maxi Cosi Magellan Car Seat

I’m happy that I had to opportunity to be a Maxi Cosi mom from day one! I know if you read my Maxi Cosi Lara Travel stroller post. You will know that we requested the famous Zelia stroller from our family (pre-Ava Rose) and I’ve been in love with it ever since. We have been using the bucket seat from when Ava came home from the hospital in my car until 6 weeks ago.

The things about babies/toddlers is that they grow fast. Oh boy, do they grow fast. I mean I just bought a whole bunch of clothes for Ava like 2 months ago and she has already grown them out! Since she is now 16 months and super tall for her age. Recently we started noticing that she no longer comfortably fits in to her car seat in my car. I tried to prolong it as along as I could... But we knew it was time for an upgrade. I was also super lucky and grateful Maxi Cosi gifted us the Magellan Car Seat.

Some background about this car seat:
It's a 5-in-1 car seat. So it grows with your child, from newborn all the way up to 10 years old (or 120 pounds) going from car seat to booster seat as your child's needs change.

FYI a few things.
Please do your research and know went to turn the car seat forward-facing. We consulted our doctor and she gave us the okay due to Ava length/weight. And of course, car seat regulations recommend that you continue to keep your child in a booster seat until they are tall enough to be able to use a seat belt comfortably.

I have a friend who told me that she went through 3-5 car seats as her child grew up! Which is crazy to me but for her next child will be investing in this one. 5-in-1 car seats are a great way to compensate for the changes in seating that they will need as they grow without having to constantly keep buying expensive new car seats.

Three of the biggest selling features for me is something that I didn’t even knew existed. It has a 7-position recline, 3 adjustable torso height positions and 14 headrest heights that automatically raises the harness to fit your growing child.

Let me talk a little bit about the recline. I didn’t even know it was necessary until we took a 90 min car ride out west and Ava fell asleep in one of her other car seats and her head was literally all over the place. I’m was having a heart attack that maybe she couldn't breathe well. With the Magellan on DAY ONE! With the position that the car is in she fell asleep and there was NO problem. Her head wasn’t slumped to the side or forward. I can’t even tell you the relief that was as a first time mom. Literally everything freaks me out but I was able to drive comfortably and know that she is safe and protected while we're driving.

Before, I go I forgot to also tell you that I love the fact that the cup holders are removal BUT not easy for a toddler/baby to take off. I literally don’t have to go searching for it every trip! Haha!

The Magellan is $599 CAN but you can often find them on sale.

  5. Great description of the Magellan! I bought a gray one to test it out and ended up loving it so much we bought another one (in purple) and now we have one for each car! I'm super excited to not have to buy another car seat for years since it will adjust as she grows! And removable cup holders...can't live without them now!

  6. Oh my goodness! I didn't realize the maxi-cosi has a transitioning 5-in-1 carseat! Noooo! We got the maxi cosi infant seat initially and absolutely loved it. My little guy seemed very well protected and super coszy in there. I wish I had seen this earlier because I would've purchased this version instead. Great find!
